Back List Blog Hop

Well hello there!
Welcome to the Back List Blog Hop.

It's so easy to just keep looking forward to the next new thing, the next new release, but really, I've always loved old books. Some of my favorites were written before I was born.  Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway, Edgar Allan Poe.

I'm almost embarrassed to bring my own efforts up after a list like that, because contrary to what it looks like, I don't pretend to have literary aspirations. I write for fun and entertainment, and to share the love.

So what I'd like to share with you today is one of my favorite of my books, and actually the second book I wrote, even though it wasn't published second.

This is Loving Jacob.

When Malcolm Jenner's sex-on-the-side turns into more, he isn't above begging for a second chance.

High-profile attorney Malcolm Jenner is looking for a bit of fun, nothing serious. He's got duties and responsibilities, after all. He doesn't usually choose his lovers from the office, but his attraction to Jacob Renault is too compelling to resist.

However, Jacob isn't interested in temporary. He wants it all—Prince Charming, the castle, the happily ever after. There's no rule that says the younger man can't have fun while he's searching for his prince, though...

At first neither is willing to compromise on their stance, but an agreement is reached, with each man planning to do his best to subvert the other to his viewpoint. Lust turns to love, and what's impossible becomes merely improbable, but is it going to be enough?

Excerpt

Malcolm gritted his teeth and reminded himself that an office fling with a man who had to be at least ten years his junior was out of the question. He and Penny had long since relinquished any pretense of monogamy in their marriage and reached an amicable agreement to conduct their affairs discreetly out of respect for their son and their friendship. Fucking purple-eyed twinks in the elevator at work? Not discreet.

He kept his gaze focused on the gleaming silver metal of the doors as the elevator made its excruciatingly slow way up to the third floor. His glance flicked to the reflection beside his. The younger man stood casually, shoulders propped against the wall, licking pink lips. His purple gaze in the hazy reflection was focused...fuck...on Malcolm's obvious erection beneath his dark dress pants. Discretion. Discretion. He snarled at his libido. There will be no casual hookups with people from the office, he warned his eager cock. He shifted to the side slightly, hoping to hide the evidence of his arousal from the other man. Damn it. That kid had the sexiest eyes he'd ever seen. He wanted like hell to see them glaze over as he fucked the tight ass hinted at by the khaki pants he wore. He didn't go much for the intimacy of face-to-face encounters, but for the sight of those eyes and that mouth in the throes of orgasm, he'd make an exception. His tendency toward quick casual encounters disguised his preference for male partners and kept word of his homosexuality from getting back to his parents, his partners in the firm, and out to the public.

A law office, like any other place of business, was a microcosm of the world at large. Malcolm knew from being on the receiving end of gossip from his secretary Marge that every action and interaction between employees was fodder for the gossip mill. Being the subject of water cooler gossip lacked appeal and offended his sense of dignity, as did the knowledge that he apparently couldn't control his urges around the tech guy.

He threw in the towel and gave up the fight against his attraction to the young man from the technology department. Malcolm caught that sultry purple gaze on his cock for what must have been the hundredth time. The slight young man brushed against him in an intentional teasing slide while he tried to exit the elevator on the second floor.

Impulsively, Malcolm grabbed Jacob's hand and pulled him back inside the otherwise-empty space. He kept that small, soft hand locked in his own as he allowed the heavy metal doors to slam shut and the elevator to rise to his own floor. There he slapped his palm against the button that prevented the doors from opening. He'd had all the titillation he could stand. Malcolm swept the young man into his embrace. He tilted Jacob's head upward with one hand and dropped his mouth passionately, almost brutally, to kiss the other man. His other hand tangled in the black curls that had taunted his senses over the past weeks. He forced the soft pink lips apart, then swept his tongue inside. Instantly he was absorbed in the heated, slick haven of Jacob's mouth. The honeyed sweetness drew him further in and his tongue eagerly sought the textures and flavors that had been hidden there. Fuck. He could drown in the wet heat he found behind those soft lips. It was addictive. Jacob didn't even try to escape the kiss; in fact, he seemed to be doing his best to encourage it. He brushed his tongue against Malcolm's, sweeping it gently along the roof of his mouth, seeking and finding the sweetest spots. Both men were panting heavily when they separated.

What are you wearing? My favorite old t-shirt until things get too hot and then, well nothing.

What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight? Fresh fruit with greek yoghurt to dip. I'm a healthy person. I want to live forever, there is so much to do in life.

If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find? he he, take a look if you're brave enough.

Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night? Kick off, I like to spread out.

Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up? Sure so long as I can slip my cold hand somewhere warm on your body.

What are we reading? Taming the Outback

EXCERPT

The four-wheel drive truck pulled up behind her, and the driver's door opened. She couldn't see the occupant until he stood right in front of her, towering over her in the dim light. He was dressed in dusty work clothes and jeans, which sat snugly on broad hips. A thick cotton work shirt with sleeves rolled up to the elbows showed off strong, tanned arms. An old, worn hat was pushed down over short hair, hiding his face as he stood looking down at her.

"Are you okay?" he asked in a deep voice that rolled over her, triggering something familiar deep in her brain.

"No, my car overheated, and now it won't start." Libby sighed as she followed him to the front of the vehicle.

He shone a flashlight at the hood and told her to release it. He lifted it and stuck his head beneath. Muttering and cursing drifted back toward her ears. He slammed it back down and turned to her.

"You have a broken radiator hose," the stranger said. "The top one has completely blown, and the bottom one is on its way out. Don't you check your car at all? It's a bloody mess under that hood."

"My car runs fine normally." Libby straightened her spine. LSo much for country charm; Mr. Personality, you aren't. "But thanks for looking at it anyway. I won't hold you up any longer."

"Testy little thing, aren't you?" He pushed his hat back on his head as he came closer to her, his face barely visible in the fading light. "We don't leave women on the side of the road out in this country."

"What are you doing here?" Libby asked as she recognized the lawyer who had made such an impression on her at Aaron's.

"I live here. The question should be what're you doing here?" He sneered before walking away from her.

"I think you know the answer to that question. It's such a shame our first encounter is enough to upset you." Libby kicked at the dirt, knowing her softly spoken words had gone unheard.

At least he's easy on the eyes; pity his attitude isn't as nice.

Leaning on the back of his dust-covered truck, Nathan pulled his mobile phone from his pocket and punched in a number. He glanced over at Libby pacing back and forth while he waited for someone to pick up.

He'd known she was due soon, but he didn't expect to meet her out on the highway, broken down.

"Tom, it's Nathan, I'm out on the side of the road at the highway end, just before the turnoff. I think I have something which belongs to you." He grimaced as he looked back toward the women watching him. "You had better bring the truck out. Yeah, sure, I'll wait with her. Don't be too long. She's a little bit fiery. Sure, 'bye."

"So..." he drawled, walking back to stand before Libby. His heart was thumping, and a thin sheen of sweat was making his face heat up as he let his gaze run over her body from her pert nose to her long, bare legs. He noticed the blush on her cheeks while he scrutinized her under the flashlight beam. Damn you, Uncle Aaron. Cute and fiery. Too dangerous out here. If circumstances were different, or even another time and place, he could get attached to this woman—at least, physically. "You're the city chick who's going to take Quincy Station into the black, eh? I wonder if you know what you're taking on, sweetheart?"

"Don't you 'sweetheart' me, mate. It's Libby. Libby Holland, and yes, I am the city chickwho's taking over my great-uncle's farm." She glared at him in the torchlight.

"Do you have a problem with that?"

Crawl in Bed With Troy Carstairs

Crawling Into Bed With Troy Carstairs from Diving in Deep

Important things first, are these sheets silk or cotton?

Cotton. Jake and Cam are too practical for silk, although I really like the idea. I wonder if I could convince them silk could be practical...

What are you wearing?

In deference to your presence, boxers. If you weren't here, I wouldn't bother. My boys like me to be accessible.

What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight?

*glances furtively at the door* Let me know if you hear Cam coming. He doesn't like food in the bed. *whips a bag of potato chips from under the sheet*

If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find?

Not much. We keep the toys in the other nightstand. Whatever was in Jake's pockets today, the book Cam's reading. Although...he's been doing some research lately *blushes*

Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night?

Hah! Clearly this is your first time in Cairns. We're in the tropics here, Lee, and the bedroom doesn't have aircon. I don't think we even own covers.

Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up?

Cam: No
*Troy looks at his lover, standing in the doorway, and smiles weakly* Hey. Uh - this is Lee.
*Cam turns his head and calls out* Jake! Troy's inviting strange men into the bed! *glances back at Troy and Lee* Are those chips?
*Troy mutters* Oh, crap.

What are we reading?
Diving in Deep

Cameron is sick of being a stereotypical nerd. In an attempt to "reinvent" himself, he takes three months off for a holiday in Australia--something the old Cameron would never do.

Troy and Jake are in a committed relationship. Co-owners of Sail Away, a water sport and cruising company, their life is about sun, sea and each other.

Neither Troy nor Jake have ever participated in a ménage, but after a day on the water with Cameron, both are fantasizing about sandwiching him between them. Cameron has never been with a man but can't stop thinking about the hot couple, and how they'd look, naked and entwined. When he walks in on them having sex in the underwater observatory, he can't look away--and then they invite him to join in.

Will the old Cameron sink in uncharted territory? Or will the new Cameron find himself diving in deep?

Excerpt:

The bell over the door dinged, and Jake glanced up from the computer. Any distraction from the bookkeeping was welcome. He smiled at Troy. Was it that time already?
“Hey,” his lover said, crossing the room and leaning across the desk. Jake met him halfway, planting a quick, hard kiss on those soft lips. A sharply indrawn breath drew his attention to the man who’d followed Troy into the office.
“Hey, yourself.” Jake pulled back and nodded to the stranger. “Going to introduce me to your friend?”

Troy half-turned. “Sure. Jake Paulson, Cameron Hall. Cameron came out to the pontoon with us today, and now he wants to get his dive certificate.”
Jake reached for the drawer where they kept the list of reputable dive instructors. “No problem. We have a list of some excellent dive companies. I’ll make a copy for you.”
Troy cleared his throat and looked away. “Actually, I said we’d give him the lessons.”
Jake’s hand froze on the drawer handle. What the hell? “Oh.” He raised an eyebrow, but Troy’s gaze was fixed on the desk. “Okay. Um, what arrangement did you make?”
They didn’t do certification lessons. He studied the stranger—Cameron. He was kind of gangly and had a very faint tan, probably as a result of the day on the water. His hair was the same shade between blond and brown as Troy’s, but Troy spent so much time outdoors that the sun had streaked his with gold.

Cameron fiddled with his watch. “Troy said you’d work that out.”
“Did he?” Jake glanced at Troy, who made a sheepish face.
“Yeah. Uh, I thought he could come out on the boat with the regular day-trippers, and you or I could do his lessons. At a reasonable rate?” The questioning lift to his last sentence was accompanied by his puppy-dog look, the one Jake could never resist.
His gaze met Troy’s mocha-latte colored eyes, and his stomach did its usual flip. He sighed. “Sure. Sit down, Cameron, and we’ll work something out.”
Troy grinned, shooting him a grateful look, and the hairs on the back of Jake’s neck stood on end. Why did this matter so much to Troy? He turned his attention back to Cameron as the man sat in one of the visitor’s chairs. Cameron’s hazel eyes gazed back at him.
“So, I’ll leave you two to it.” Troy put a hand on Cameron’s shoulder and squeezed, and a shock ran down Jake’s spine. Troy was a hands-on person, but…His lover smiled at him and he forced himself to smile back. He was being ridiculous. He had no reason to be jealous. Troy was being nice to a tourist, that was all.
